RedDane Creations

I was recently asked to shoot some promotional and product shots for the company RedDane Creations. Alright, so that sounds really official here's what really happened. The creator of RedDane, Redd, is one of my daughter's mentors. Tyler volunteered me shoot and to be honest, I jumped at the chance to show my appreciation to Red for investing in Tyler.

We had a blast shooting out in Cypress on the Campus of Bayou City Fellowship. After the shoot, I told Redd that I needed her to answer some questions for my blog so that people could get a chance to learn about her products. But I was really after something else. I wanted to know why?

If you know Redd you know that my daughter is not just some random girl that she decided to invest in. But Redd gives her life away and has mentored countless teenage girls. So why? Why does she do it? I am excited for you to get to meet her and find out why. Oh, yeah and she makes some killer products. And we took some pics.

What is RedDane Creations?

RedDane Creations is an online store for handmade accessories. Specializing in colorful and unique scarves. How long has it been around?

I started RedDane Creations in 2012 as a part-time way to pay for my accumulating hobbies. In the beginning of 2016, it became my full-time job.

Why, how did you get started?

I started sewing when I hurt my back and couldn’t work-out or play sports anymore. I enjoyed sewing and picking out unique fabrics and prints and wanted to share that with others.

What’s with the name ?

I had a good friend who worked in the marketing department at my old job and I asked her to help me with the name, so I give the credit to her for coming up with it. I go by “Redd” so that was the first part, and the second “Dane” was because I have a great dane, Abby, who everyone tends to love the minute they meet her. She is also the mascot for our company She helped me pick the word “Creations” because I didn’t want to be boxed in, by a more descriptive word, who knows what else I might want to make for the store. I liked the word “Creations” because I think it’s a good way to let people know what they are getting is hand-made and unique.

So who are the models? Is there a reason that you picked them?

Many of the models are current and former students of the youth group at Houston’s First Baptist Church. I have been a volunteer leader in the youth group for over 3 years and have had the honor to mentor, become friends with, grow, learn, teach, and love a number of amazing young woman. Being in that role has been my main purpose in life for the past 3 years, and I hope many more. I enjoy every moment of it, even the hard ones and am inspired and encouraged by them. Many of them have such a joyful, fun, and welcoming personality, and that’s what I wanted the photos to represent.

Some of the other models are very close friends to me, who have always been very supportive, interested and encouraging of my endeavors. They are also women that love life, love having fun and love God.

Why do you invest your life in students?

When I was in high school, I did not have anyone, outside of my family, to guide me in my relationship with Jesus and help me learn what the right decisions to make are, and why. From the end of high school through to a couple years after college; I ran far away from God, and sought recognition, approval, and love in relationships, popularity, partying, etc. I received everything I thought I wanted and found myself miserable, regretful, and unfulfilled. I felt God calling me back to Him and I started attending church again. At that church, I gained new friends who helped guide me and encouraged me in my growing relationship with the Lord. After a couple of years, I was able to look back on my life and realize that if I had, had a strong Christian woman (outside of family) in my life in high school it would have made a real difference in the path that I took, so that led me to volunteer with the students.

There is nothing as fulfilling as doing exactly what God is calling you to do, there is more joy in that than anything the world can offer us. I like to say that “it was a blessing to be a youth leader, but it was a miracle the first group that I got”. The first group I had was an absolutely amazing group of young woman of God. They were all very different, but each of them loving, friendly, joyful, kind, thoughtful, and the type of people you always want to be around. They taught me many things, while I hopefully taught them something, and were (and are) a bright light in my life. Since then, I have been blessed to be a leader of many wonderful students, that have changed my life forever. I could talk about this all day so I’ll wrap it up now by saying, if you’re a follower of Jesus then find someone to disciple, it will change your life and your relationship with Jesus.
